Bilecik Provincial Health Director Dr. Damkacı said that the definitive diagnosis of prostate cancer is made by biopsy. Damkacı said, “In general, it is important for men to be regularly examined by a urologist from the age of 50, and those who have prostate cancer in their first-degree relatives from the age of 40 in terms of early diagnosis.”
“Approximately 18 thousand people are diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1 year”
Dr. Damkacı continued his explanation, “It is called Hyperplasia (BPH). Although BPH is not a cancer, surgery may be required to correct the discomfort it causes. In prostate cancer, cancer cells are observed in the prostate gland. Prostate cancer, which occurs more frequently with aging, maintains its importance with an incidence of 39.1 per 100,000 among male cancers in our country as in many countries of the world. Approximately 18 thousand people are diagnosed with prostate cancer in a year.”
“1 out of every 19 people is at risk of prostate cancer”
Explaining that 1 out of every 19 people has the risk of developing prostate cancer during his lifetime, Bilecik Provincial Health Director Dr. Ferhat Damkacı continued his words as follows;
“According to research, there are several factors that can affect a man's risk of developing prostate cancer: Age, familial predisposition, diet, chemical exposures. Many of these problems may not be caused by prostate cancer. However, the symptoms listed above are more likely to be caused by something other than prostate cancer. For example, urination problems are often caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate. Nevertheless, people who experience urinary problems should consult a urologist for early diagnosis and treatment.”
