The opening of the 1st International Dentistry Congress organized by Gaziantep University (GAUN) Faculty of Dentistry was held.
Making the opening speech of the event held at GAUN Mavera Congress and Art Center, Gaziantep Metropolitan Mayor Fatma Şahin pointed out the importance of scientific activities and stated that they will continue to support such activities. Stating that the field of health, especially medicine and dentistry, has a critical place in terms of public health, Mayor Şahin said, “We live in this deep-rooted geography where great medical scholars such as Ibn-i Sina grew up. This gives us more responsibility in the field of health. Every activity in the field of health is an important step towards raising the physicians of the future.”
GAUN Rector Prof. Dr. Arif Özaydın, who started his speech by condemning the terrorist attack against the Kahramankazan facilities of Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. Prof. Dr. Özaydın, talking about the work done in the field of health at the university, “We rank first in Turkey in organ transplantation. When we took office, we had one hospital; today our university has five hospitals. We have turned our university into a health campus.”
Stating that they aim to make GAUN a research university by working harder, Prof. Dr. Özaydın said, “We want to move our university to where it deserves. Gaziantep University has gained significant momentum in scientific activities in the recent period. We will continue to work harder, produce more science and do more research.”
Umut Yılmaz, Mayor of Şehitkamil Municipality, promised to support the next congress and stated that dentistry has a very important place in the field of health. Mayor Yılmaz said, “It is extremely beneficial for our dentists and academicians to come together in terms of professional development. Sharing innovations and up-to-date information in the field will both increase the competence of our dentists and make a great contribution to public health. We are ready to fulfill our responsibilities in this process.”
Stating that the seeds of the congress were sown in a senate meeting a year ago, GAUN Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Dr. Uğur Aydın said, “With this congress, which we organized for the first time at Gaziantep University, we brought together valuable academicians in the field of dentistry. Academic education should not remain only under the roof of the school or faculty; with these activities, we aim to provide future dentists with this mission.
I would like to thank Assoc. Prof. Dr. Derya Gürsel Sürmelioğlu and her team who contributed to the organization of the congress, as well as our Rector Prof. Dr. Arif Özaydın, who always supports the organization of the congress in our university.”
Congress 2nd President and GAUN Faculty of Dentistry Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Derya Gürsel Sürmelioğlu stated that the congress is expected to strengthen international cooperation in the field of dentistry and increase the exchange of information between colleagues and thanked everyone who contributed to the congress.
A large number of dentists, academicians and students from all over Turkey attended the congress where the latest developments in the field of dentistry, innovative treatment methods and technological advances will be discussed.
The congress will continue until October 27, 2024.
