6 diseases mistaken for spring fatigue

Medline Adana Hospital Internal Medicine Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Aktaş, who said that sometimes important diseases can lie under seemingly simple complaints and that neglecting this, especially during seasonal transitions, by confusing it with spring fatigue can have serious consequences, said, “If the individual's spring fatigue complaints have exceeded 1 month, the underlying causes should be carefully investigated.”

Many people think that they suffer from spring fatigue in these days when autumn makes itself felt better and better with the decrease in sunny weather and the sky turning gray tones, longer and longer nights, shorter and shorter days, cooler weather and the onset of precipitation. However, sometimes some diseases can be confused with spring fatigue. Making a statement on this subject, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aktaş explained the diseases that are confused with spring fatigue as follows:

“Anemia, or anemia as it is popularly known, is defined as the lack of the necessary amount of healthy red blood cells in the body to carry enough oxygen to organs and tissues. Symptoms of anemia such as fatigue, loss of energy, weakness, pale skin develop as a result of insufficient oxygen delivery to body tissues. Since these symptoms can be confused with spring fatigue, they should not be neglected. Otherwise, it can cause body aches, mood disorders, forgetfulness and numbness in the hands and feet.

The thyroid is a hormone-producing gland located on the windpipe, consisting of 2 main lobes weighing 15-20 grams. When it cannot function properly, some physical and emotional symptoms occur in individuals. Among these, hot flashes, fatigue and weakness are similar symptoms that can be frequently confused with spring fatigue. However, neglected thyroid problems can lead to heart disease, osteoporosis, menstrual irregularities and infertility in the future.

Even if you want to lose the few extra pounds you gained in the summer, on the contrary, your gradual weight gain may not be due to the feeling of laziness caused by spring fatigue or the weather preventing you from doing sports. However, if you crave sugary foods more than in the past, it may be time to see a doctor to have your insulin resistance checked. Because insulin resistance that is not recognized in time invites many serious diseases such as cancer, obesity, blood pressure and stroke, especially diabetes when left untreated.

Since vitamins are important nutrients that support the healthy and balanced functioning of our body, their deficiency can open the door to serious health problems. Deficiency or inadequate intake can lead to physical and mental fatigue, bone pain and hair loss. It is important to be aware of these symptoms, which can sometimes be overlooked or associated with other health problems, and to take the necessary treatment without delay to improve quality of life. However, especially vitamins to be taken as supplements should be under the control of a doctor.

'Seasonal allergic rhinitis', which is common in the fall months, occurs as an allergic reaction of the nasal mucosa against allergenic substances found in nature. The disease manifests itself with frequent sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, itching and develops in the form of attacks. However, allergy can also cause weakness and reluctance by creating a picture similar to spring fatigue. Identifying the substances to which the patient has an allergic reaction helps to determine the measures to be taken and the treatment to be applied.

Fall can sometimes come with fatigue and depression. It may even be depression that you think is fatigue. The decrease in sunny weather and gray skies, longer nights, shorter days and less time spent outdoors lead to both physiological and psychological changes in people. If symptoms such as laziness, loss of appetite, fatigue, hopelessness, feeling worthless last longer than 1 month, it is useful to consult the relevant specialist, considering that this may be a sign of depression.”
