A first in Turkey: Walking robot will give hope to patients

The use of WalkBot, a revolutionary walking robot in rehabilitation, was started for the first time in Turkey with Medipol Health Group. WalkBot offers effective treatment to patients who cannot walk due to neurological disorders such as stroke, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, Parkinson's and MS.

Medipol Acıbadem Regional Hospital broke new ground in Turkey by commissioning WalkBot, the world's most advanced walking robot. WalkBot, which was installed by engineers from South Korea, draws attention as the most comprehensive robotic rehabilitation system in the region. The most striking example of the new generation technology was the treatment process of Plastic Surgeon specialist Dr. Zeki Erksun, who had meningitis 3.5 months ago and had no muscle strength in his arms and legs and was bedridden. Thanks to WalkBot, Dr. Erksun, who underwent an intensive rehabilitation process of 1.5 months, was able to walk strongly again.

“Will be self-sufficient in 3 months”

Dr. Faculty Member Gökhan Özkoçak, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist from Medipol Acıbadem Regional Hospital, explained the treatment process practically. Stating that Dr. Zeki Erksun has reached full muscle strength with the arm robot and has become able to perform even fine skills, Dr. Özkoçak said, “While our patient had minimal or even zero mobility in the in-bed stage, he is now able to walk independently with WalkBot. We have made a serious progress after an intensive treatment process. With the increase in his endurance, we think that Mr. Zeki will be at a stage where he will be able to do his own work in the next 2-3 months. we are waiting.

“I thought I would never walk again”

Stating that his treatment continues successfully, Plastic Surgeon Specialist Dr. Zeki Erksun said, “3 months ago, I lost sensation one morning when I was getting ready to go to work. I lay down on a sofa. At that moment, I thought I would never be able to move or walk again. I don't remember anything after that. I was intubated for 3 weeks. When I was transferred here, only my fingertips were slightly moving. We started my treatment quickly. In a short time, I was able to stand up on my own and see my own needs. In this way, I got rid of the negative thoughts in my mind. No one should lose hope. Let's take care of our health. It is very easy to lose our health, but it takes a long time to regain it.”

WalkBot stands out with the following features:

- Ankle Movement: WalkBot revolutionizes this field as the only robot that can operate the ankle.

- Interactive Mode: It provides more effective treatment by focusing on the needs of patients with personalized interactive modes.

- Hip and Knee Targeting: Increases the effectiveness of rehabilitation by focusing specifically on hip and knee joints.

- Performance Detection: By measuring performance with the support of artificial intelligence, it offers the most appropriate treatment plan for patients' conditions.
