It was stated that approximately 1 out of every 5 people worldwide will develop cancer in their lifetime, while one in every 9 men and one in every 12 women will die of cancer.
It is predicted that there will be more than 35 million new cancer cases worldwide in 2050.
Making a statement on the subject, Dr. Nimet Baki, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hope and Life Association, drew attention to the increasing number of cancer cases and reminded that 240 thousand cancer cases were seen in Turkey in 2022. Baki said, “Approximately 1 out of every 5 people worldwide gets cancer during their lifetime. 1 out of every 9 men and 1 out of every 12 women die from cancer. A 77 percent increase in cancer cases is predicted in 2050. More than 35 million new cancer cases are projected worldwide in 2050, a 77 percent increase from the estimated 20 million cases in 2022. While the global cancer burden is rising rapidly, tobacco, alcohol and obesity stand out as the main factors behind the increase in cancer cases. Air pollution is one of the main 'environmental risk factors' for cancer. There were 240 thousand cancer cases in Turkey in 2022. Improving the patient's quality of life is also an important goal, which can be achieved by providing support for the patient's physical, psychosocial and spiritual well-being and palliative care in the last stages of cancer. Some of the most common cancers, such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, oral cancer and colorectal cancer, are known to have high cure rates when detected early and treated according to best practices. While significant differences in access to treatment stand out according to the income levels of countries, it is stated that comprehensive treatment is available in more than 90 percent of high-income countries and less than 15 percent of low-income countries.”
On the other hand, Hope and Life Association held its 6th Ordinary General Assembly Meeting. At the General Assembly meeting, Dr. Nimet Baki was re-elected president.
