Approximately 33 percent of deaths in Turkey are caused by cardiovascular diseases

Bilecik Training and Research Hospital Cardiology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsa Ardahanlı said that cardiovascular diseases are the cause of about 33 percent of deaths in Turkey every year.

Cardiology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsa Ardahanlı said that cardiovascular diseases, which negatively affect the heart and vascular system, define a large group of diseases that can occur in varying severity. Explaining that when we think of cardiovascular diseases, coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmia and valvular heart diseases, which we know as vascular occlusion, come to mind most frequently, Ardahanlı continued his words as follows:

“According to the latest data from the World Health Organization, approximately 18 million people worldwide die each year from diseases related to cardiovascular blockages. The situation is similar in our country. According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), cardiovascular diseases account for approximately 33 percent of deaths in Turkey each year. Behavioral risk factors that play an important role in the formation of cardiovascular diseases include smoking, high cholesterol, sedentary lifestyle and irregular diet. By reducing risk factors with this scheme, we can reduce mortality rates due to cardiovascular diseases by up to 80 percent. The theme for 2024 is 'You first, your heart first and take action for your heart'. Due to the importance of the issue, the Ministry of Health has announced the Turkish Cardiovascular Diseases Protection and Prevention Program. In this program, a large-scale algorithm has been created to investigate complications due to chronic diseases, early diagnosis and screening methods.”

“We invite everyone to take action for heart health, to visit their registered family physicians regularly, and to have periodic screening and follow-ups”

Cardiology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsa Ardahanlı continued his statement as follows: “In this context, our family physicians should calculate the risk of cardiovascular disease in individuals aged 40 and over and measure the risk of cardiovascular disease within ten years. We invite everyone to take action for heart health, to visit their registered family physicians regularly, and to have periodic screening and follow-ups. Let our heart be our priority, be the hero of your heart.”
