“Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is important for early recognition”
Dr. Canan İnce Börekci, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Specialist at Private Imperial Hospital, who made warnings on the occasion of October 14-20 “Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder” awareness week, pointed out that attention deficit hyperactivity disorder begins to be seen at an early age.
Listing what should be known about attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Börekçi said, “Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder. In other words, differentiations in the early stages of brain development are the cause of the disorder, and symptoms begin to appear at an early age. Findings may differ between children according to the predominance of attention deficit, hyperactivity and impulsivity. While attention deficit affects people's attention, orientation, learning and memory skills in school, work and daily life functions, hyperactivity and impulsivity may impair people's ability to restrain themselves, anticipate danger and risk, make decisions by thinking, and control their emotions and behaviors. Hyperactivity and impulsivity increase people's susceptibility to behavioral problems, substance abuse, screen, social media, gaming and other addictions. In attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, there may also be impairments in brain functions such as planning, organizing, prioritizing, time management, goal orientation and initiation problems and regulation of motivation. Therefore, treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder should include improvement in other impaired brain functions and skills in addition to attention deficit hyperactivity symptoms. Being aware of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder due to the problems it causes in many areas is important for early recognition of symptoms.”
