Kırşehir Training and Research Hospital Neurology Specialist Dr. Aydan Köysüren made a statement about Alzheimer's disease and said, “Patients ask the same questions over and over again. Early diagnosis in patients with severe forgetfulness gives comfort to the patient and his relatives.”
Neurology Specialist Köysüren said that early treatment and diagnosis of the disease, which he stated is one of the most common types of dementia in the society, has a great effect on the patient's relief. Stating that the risk of the disease may increase with old age, Specialist Dr. Köysüren said; “Between the ages of 65-85, the incidence doubles every 5 years. Over the age of 80, the incidence rate of Alzheimer's disease is 50 percent. It is estimated that there are more than 600 thousand Alzheimer's patients in Turkey.” Explaining that people with the disease have difficulties in learning new information, Köysüren continued his statement as follows;
“Patients with a high risk of forgetting have difficulty in remembering their recent experiences while remembering their past experiences more easily. The disease is a progressive disease. Decision-making difficulties, difficulty in making calculations, personality changes, difficulty in finding directions, and difficulty in doing the things they used to do easily occur. These symptoms attract the attention of the patient's relatives before the patient.”
