As students prepare to return to school after a long summer vacation, experts made important preparations for students and parents.
Making a statement in this context, Hayat Hospital Uzm. Clinical Psychologist Eda Demirtaş said, “Students may have moved away from their daily routines during the vacation, which may cause some difficulties in returning to school. However, it is of great importance to act in a planned manner in order to overcome these difficulties and adapt to school quickly.”
Stating that being planned will enable students to use their time more efficiently, Uzm. Clinical Psychologist Eda Demirtaş said, “Making daily, weekly or monthly plans to organize study hours, rest and entertainment times gives students a sense of control. This significantly reduces anxiety and stress, especially during exam periods. A planned study pattern allows students to identify and focus on the subjects they are lacking in, thus minimizing the uncertainty and anxiety experienced before exams. Studying in a planned way, not only during the exam period but throughout the year, increases a student's self-confidence and gives them a sense of preparedness when exam time comes. This feeling of preparedness prevents the anxiety that may be experienced during the exam and positively affects the student's exam performance.”
Reminding that exam anxiety and focusing on lessons are important factors affecting students' academic success, Demirtaş said the following: “Strategies such as reducing test anxiety, strengthening the social environment and increasing motivation in lessons can make students' school experience more positive. These suggestions support both the academic and social development of students and form the basis for a successful school life. Early preparation, test simulations, cognitive behavioral techniques and relaxation exercises can be effective in managing test anxiety. In order to increase focus, it is useful to use methods appropriate for learning styles, fun learning techniques and setting planned goals. Families should have a supportive and positive attitude to help their children cope with test anxiety.”
