Beware of allergic eczema in the fall

Stating that diseases will start to manifest themselves with the cooling weather, experts said that eczema, which is one of the common skin diseases, is also affected by cold weather. Dermatology Specialist Dr. Oğuz Küçükçakır said that atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, is triggered in the spring months when pollen is high, as well as in the autumn season when the weather starts to cool and the humidity rate starts to decrease, and sometimes it can be severe enough to affect daily life.

Stating that the use of indoor heating systems in autumn and winter, very thick clothes, hot baths, cold and windy weather, infections and infections cause eczema to flare up, Medicana Bursa Hospital Dermatology Specialist Dr. Oğuz Küçükçakır said;

“It is possible to prevent this situation with simple precautions we can apply in our daily lives. Wool clothes should not be used because they dry the skin and cause itching, and cotton clothes should be preferred instead. Long baths with hot water cause excessive heat contact to the skin and cause the skin to dry out. Instead, short showers with warm water should be preferred. In the bath, perfume-free washing products recommended by your physician, which do not dry the skin and have moisturizing properties, should be used. In the first 5 minutes after bathing, the skin should be dried with light touches, without rubbing it with a towel, so that it remains slightly moist, and the moisturizer recommended by your physician should be applied. Excessive sweating should be prevented by avoiding very hot and humid environments. Other general precautions should be avoided from triggering foods such as dairy products, eggs, nuts, soy products and wheat, and it will be appropriate to perform the necessary allergy tests within the framework of your physician's recommendation.”

Stating that washing all newly purchased clothes before wearing them will ensure the removal of formaldehyde and other irritating chemicals, Küçükçakır concluded his statements as follows;

“If your laundry detergent is irritating, choose odorless and dye-free detergents. Wear wide and sparsely woven clothes while exercising. Since emotions and stress exacerbate eczema by increasing itching, it is very important to be able to cope with emotional states such as anger, frustration, embarrassment, and to learn how to treat and get help when necessary. Since infectious microorganisms caused by bacteria, viruses and fungi are very common problems in patients with eczema, you should consult a doctor immediately in case of increased redness, pus-filled bumps, cold sores and fever. A healthy diet is the most basic form of treatment for any disease. Consuming foods rich in vitamin E and C will increase the moisture content of your skin. Strengthening your immune system by taking prebiotic and probiotic foods and supplements is very beneficial in treating eczema and reducing the frequency of attacks. Take care to drink at least 2 liters of water a day and stay away from smoking.”
