Stating that insect bites increase in the summer months, Private Ümit Batıkent Hospital Emergency Specialist Dr. Ünal Tetik explained what to do in such cases.
Stating that insects and insects are more exposed to pests and insects in the summer months due to more abundant and open clothing and more visits to environments such as parks and the sea, Dr. Tetik said, “If the redness in the bitten area increases and progresses in the following hours, a physician should be consulted.” Stating that he has witnessed very serious injuries caused by insect bites in recent years, Dr. Tetik said, “Although these are perceived as a very simple fly at first, they can lead to serious edema and even connective tissue inflammation involving the entire leg. For this reason, Dr. Ünal Tetik stated that recently, they may encounter situations that can go up to intensive care in simple pictures that look like insect bites, and said, “Since insects change over time, the enzymes and toxins they have differentiate and can cause different effects on humans.”
“It should be disinfected”
Stating that the bitten area should be cleaned well after insect bites, Tetik said, “Because our skin is a layer that protects us against infections, when this layer deteriorates, microbes can enter from many places and cause serious infections in this area. One of the most important of these is insect bites that we encounter in the summer months.” Stating that the body becomes open to infection when tissue integrity is disrupted, Dr. Ünal Tetik said, “That area must be cleaned with cologne or an antiseptic solution if you have it.”
“Pay attention to snake and scorpion stings”
Stating that they also encounter cases of snake bites and poisoning with very hot temperatures in the summer months, Dr. Tetik said, “In Eskişehir, we can also encounter more scorpion stings than before. In case of snake or scorpion sting, it is necessary to apply to the nearest health institution without waiting.”
