Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialist Op. Dr. Ayşe Dişli Gürler; Stating that one of the most common complaints in women during menopause is osteoporosis; He said that their complaints were prevented with hormone replacement therapy.
Stating that although menopause is a physiological process, some complaints occur in women who have entered menopause, Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialist Op. Dr. Ayşe Dişli Gürler said, “Menopause is the state when the ovaries stop producing hormones in women. The average age of menopause in Turkey is approximately 47 years old. For a woman between 45 and 50 years of age who has entered menopause, this process should be considered normal. Although we say that it is a physiological process, it is obviously difficult for patients to handle conditions such as hot flashes, emotional and mood disorders, sleep disorders and osteoporosis experienced by women during menopause. During this period, we take some precautions against such complaints of the patient. Especially in patients who have recently entered menopause and who apply to us with these complaints, we provide hormone replacement therapy to get rid of these complaints. However, sometimes there are cases where we cannot start hormone replacement therapy, because it is not right to give hormone replacement therapy to every patient. In cases where we cannot give this treatment, we organize some herbal treatments similar to these hormones. But unfortunately, we cannot prevent a condition such as osteoporosis, where hormone replacement therapy works, with other herbal treatments we have started. Because we know that one of the most common conditions we see during menopause is osteoporosis. Of course, this situation should be prevented not only with treatment but also with some changes in the patient's life. One of them is to include exercise in our lives. Again, increasing the daily consumption of milk and yogurt at the point of nutrition and eating a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D. Again, ensuring that they benefit more from the sun are some of the methods we recommend to menopause patients at the point of protection from osteoporosis. In addition, we can complete the calcium and vitamin D deficiencies that our patients sometimes cannot prevent with nutritional recommendations, starting with supplements.”
“Breast screening and momography are very important”
Stating that in addition to the treatments applied by doctors, it is important for patients to live this period with importance, Op. Dr. Gürler; “Again, we strongly recommend the breast screening program for our patients in menopause, especially for our patients who use hormone replacement therapy. The breast screening program is really important for menopausal patients. It is very important for them to have annual follow-ups and to have momography examinations every 2 years. Again, annual bone scanning for osteoporosis is one of the main things we recommend for menopausal patients. In essence, it is very important to see menopause as a period of our lives and to live by accepting it a little bit, perhaps psychologically to get through this period comfortably. Of course, we help to prevent the problems experienced by patients during this physiological period, but their psychological living by caring about this period contributes greatly to our efforts.”
