Karya Farma HBX R&D, headquartered in Aydın and conducting scientific studies on various vegetables and fruits as well as endemic plants in the Aegean Region, announced that milk corn, which is usually consumed in boiled and roasted form, releases dopamine and serotonin, known as the happiness hormone, in addition to its nutritional values. Making a statement about the results of the studies, Karya Farma HBX R&D Scientific Board Member Chemist Aslı Aktaş said, “You can consume corn not only for nutrition and taste but also for your happiness.”
Karya Farma HBX R&D team, which continues its specific and strategic activities in Aydın Adnan Menderes University (ADÜ) Teknokent and has 17 different patents in its ongoing studies for nearly 20 years, took milk corn, which is consumed all over the country, especially in the Aegean and Black Sea regions, to the laboratory in this week's studies. Stating that roasted and boiled corn is a food source that can increase the body's happiness hormones beyond being a delicious snack, Chemist Aslı Aktaş suggested that people should consume such a food at least occasionally, especially roasted and boiled corn has the feature that contributes to people feeling happier, motivated and energetic by increasing the levels of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine.
Noting that serotonin is an important hormone for mood balance as well as happiness, Aktaş said, “Corn contains an amino acid called tryptophan and this amino acid supports serotonin production. Carbohydrates in roasted and boiled corn accelerate serotonin production by helping tryptophan reach the brain. A balanced serotonin level provides mental and emotional balance. Corn can contribute to making people feel better with these properties.”
