Surgical Oncology Specialist. Dr. Hüseyin Bakır said that breast cancer is the most common type of cancer that women face and the most common cause of death after lung cancer.
“Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar” was organized in cooperation with Çarşamba District Health Directorate Cancer Early Diagnosis, Screening and Training Center (KETEM) and Çarşamba Commodity Exchange (ÇTB) on the occasion of October 1-31 Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Speaking at the seminar held at ÇTB M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu Conference Hall, Samsun Training and Research Hospital Surgical Oncology Specialist. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Bakır stated the work to be done to increase awareness of breast cancer and informed that breast cancer examinations are carried out free of charge through the KETEM unit of the District Health Directorate. Uzm. Dr. Bakır said, “Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer that women face as cancers originating from the milk glands. Breast cancer is the most common cause of death after lung cancer. In developed countries, one out of every 8 women develops breast cancer at some point in her life. This rate is 1 in 10 in Turkey. Today, by organizing this seminar in our district by our Wednesday District Health Directorate, we have evaluated what can be done to create sufficient awareness and to combat the disease in question.”
“Early diagnosis is important”
Drawing attention to the importance of early diagnosis, District Health Director Uzm. Dr. Muhammet Faruk Akyüz said, “The younger the cancer is detected, the less likely it is to be encountered and the more likely it is to be treated. With the seminar we are holding today, we are trying to raise awareness about breast cancer and we invite our citizens to have breast cancer examinations free of charge in our KETEM unit within our District Health Directorate.”
After the presentations, Çarşamba District Governor Mehmet Kamil Sağlam and the participants visited the stand opened by the Çarşamba KETEM unit and consulted with the officials of the District Health Directorate and the Çarşamba Commodity Exchange.
The seminar was also attended by ÇTB Secretary General Sercan Yaşar, Deputy Secretary General Saliha Şen, Founding Assembly President Nurettin Öztekin, Registration Tracking Officer Oğuzhan Kılınç, District Health Directorate officials and many listeners.
