Breast cancer occurs in every 8 women

Stating that breast cancer is seen in every 8 women, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yavuz Pirhan said, “In cases such as painless mass in the breast, bloody discharge at the beginning, irregular hardness and pain, a physician should be examined with suspicion of breast cancer. Breast cancer is seen in every 8 women in the world and in our country.”

Making statements on the occasion of breast cancer awareness month, General Surgeon Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yavuz Pirhan from Private Amasya Kolmed Hospital emphasized that early menstruation, late cessation of menstruation, presence of breast cancer in the family, obesity and smoking are among the factors that lead to breast cancer.

Yavuz Pirhan explained that the primary treatment for a patient with breast cancer is surgical intervention and said, “Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are also given after surgery. Especially screening programs are very important. After the age of 20, every woman should regularly examine herself. In addition, a doctor's examination is required at least every 3 years. After the age of 40, she should regularly participate in screening programs with mammography and breast ultrasound every 2 years.”

“Breast cancer can also be seen in men”

Reminding that regular breast cancer screening activities are among the screening programs of the Ministry of Health, Pirhan said, “Although breast cancer is common in women, it can also be seen in men. Therefore, men should also have regular checks and examinations. As with all cancers, early diagnosis of breast cancer saves lives. Do not neglect your screenings and examinations.”
