Stating that breast milk is very important for babies, Pediatrics Specialist Dr. Nazlı Karakullukçu Çebi said. Dr. Nazlı Karakullukçu Çebi said, “Unexplained crib deaths, 13 percent of child deaths worldwide, can be reduced in this way. Every month of breastfeeding in infants reduces the risk of obesity by 4 percent.”

“The risk of disease decreases”
Uzm. Dr. Çebi said about why specialist physicians insist on breast milk: “Upper respiratory tract diseases in 0-12 months, hospitalization decreases by 72 percent in babies who receive only breast milk for 4 months, and the course of RSV bronchiolitis is 70 percent better. If breastfeeding exceeds 6 months, the risk of pneumonia is 4 times lower. Middle ear infections are 50 percent less in those who are exclusively breastfed for more than 3 months.”
“Diarrhea in infants is decreasing”
Stating that diarrhea decreases by 63 percent in breastfed babies, Uzm. Dr. Çebi said, “Unexplained crib deaths, 13 percent of child deaths worldwide can be reduced in this way. In the breast milk-allergy relationship, feeding only breast milk for the first 4 months protects 27 percent from allergies; especially if there is allergy in the family, the protection effect increases to 42 percent. In infants, each month of breastfeeding reduces the risk of obesity by 4 percent. A breastfed sibling is on average 7 kilograms thinner in adulthood than a non-breastfed sibling. It protects against both types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is 30 percent less common and type 2 diabetes is 40 percent less common.”
