Van Training and Research Hospital is on its way to becoming an important health center in the region by increasing its capacity with new beds and incubators added to the pediatric and neonatal intensive care units.
Health Sciences University (SBU) Van Training and Research Hospital, which serves approximately 3 million patients in the Eastern Anatolia Region, has further improved its health services with the capacity increase in pediatric and neonatal intensive care units. With the new beds and incubators added to the hospital, a significant progress was made especially in neonatal care.
Speaking on the subject, Hospital Chief Physician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Remzi Sarıkaya said that they accelerated their efforts to make the hospital the advanced referral center of the region. Stating that they increased the number of incubators in the neonatal intensive care unit from 64 to 105, Sarıkaya said, “Since we took office, we have gradually increased the number of incubators and we have now reached 72 tertiary intensive care capacity. Since our province is a place with high fertility rates, the number of newborn babies is also high. We are currently the neonatal referral center of both our own hospital and the region, which means we are in a position to meet almost all referrals. Referral rates from our hospital are also quite low.”
Emphasizing that neonatal intensive care units are very sensitive and critical areas, Sarıkaya said: “Neonatologists, pediatric specialists, nurses trained in the field of pediatric specialists, clinical support specialists and cleaning staff all undergo separate trainings and provide this service. Therefore, they are very sensitive and critical areas. As a hospital, we have created a suitable environment by applying all the rules in a very appropriate way.”
Newborn specialist Dr. Mahmut Çelik expressed that the newly opened areas are an important need for the region and thanked the hospital management.
