On September 29, World Heart Day, an event was organized at VM Medical Park Maltepe Hospital to draw attention to heart health and inform citizens about cardiovascular health. In the area set up at the entrance of the hospital, citizens' blood pressure was measured and informative brochures were distributed. A cardio bike was also placed in the area to emphasize the importance of exercise and encourage movement. Citizens who used the cardio bike had the opportunity to have their blood pressure measured immediately afterwards.

Famous actor Cem Cücenoğlu also participated in the event, riding a bicycle and having his blood pressure measured. Cem Cücenoğlu, who lost 60 kilograms after a stomach surgery and stated that he lives a healthier life than before, also made statements about the importance of heart health.

Cem Cücenoğlu said, “I was living an obese life until 5 years ago. I got rid of my weight with a stomach surgery. It doesn't just end with that. In order to be able to do these exercises, it is not only necessary to be at the right weight, but also to quit some habits. I had bad habits like smoking. The most important reason why we can do these exercises more easily is that our veins are open, our blood circulation is good and our lungs are open. For this, it is necessary to stay away from substances such as smoking. It's been 5 years since I quit smoking and I feel very clean, so I can exercise well. That's why I recommend everyone to stay away from their habits if possible, drink plenty of water and do plenty of exercise. My father and his brothers had heart surgeries about 25-30 years ago. At the time of my father's surgery, I was very overweight. The doctor looked at me and said, 'We will take you for heart surgery in 20 years'. Weight and unhealthy living are not good things for the heart. To keep heart health in balance, nutrients need to enter the body in a balanced way and they need to be burned in a balanced way through exercise.”

“Cardiovascular diseases are the primary cause of death in all countries around the world”

VM Medical Park Maltepe Hospital Cardiology Specialist Prof. Dr. Kenan Sönmez also made statements regarding the importance of World Heart Day on September 29 and the vital importance of cardiovascular health. Prof. Dr. Sönmez said, “The purpose of today is to draw attention to heart diseases, vascular diseases, to explain their characteristics to the society a little more, to increase the level of knowledge of the society on this issue and thus to create an environment where there will be less heart disease. In fact, these things should be valid every day, but we want to emphasize this on this special day. Heart diseases have certain characteristics. First of all, cardiovascular diseases are currently the primary cause of death in all countries around the world. If it is not treated well, if it is not intervened in time, it can lead to death or very serious consequences. Cardiovascular diseases also have other characteristics. Cardiovascular diseases are actually preventable diseases. In other words, we can prevent or even regress cardiovascular disease. Another feature is that it is possible to recover from cardiovascular disease without death or other serious consequences. In other words, if we do appropriate treatment, if we detect it on time, if we have the right behavior, this disease does not necessarily result in death. With good treatment, people can lead normal lives. How does an earthquake happen? The pressure builds up and then one day there is an earthquake. There are many factors that lead to this build-up of pressure until cardiovascular disease actually becomes visible. If we are protected from these, we will not get cardiovascular disease. If we treat diseases such as diabetes and blood pressure on time, if we do not smoke, if we lead an active working life, if we exercise regularly, if we watch our weight, if our cholesterol is high, if we treat it, we can prevent or delay the development of cardiovascular disease.”
