'Cardiovascular diseases can be diagnosed early with coronary CT angiography'

Stating that coronary artery disease is the most common cause of death in the world, Cardiology Specialist Dr. Mustafa Yaşan said, “With the development of multislice computed tomography (CT) technology and the increase in experience in this field, coronary CT angiography has become a safe method that can be used in the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases.”
Cardiology Specialist Dr. Mustafa Yaşan from VM Medical Park Samsun Hospital gave information about coronary CT angiography. Pointing out that the most important advantage of coronary CT angiography is that it can be performed very quickly, Specialist. Dr. Yaşan said, “Moreover, it is extremely comfortable for the patient and does not require hospitalization. In addition, the most important advantages of CT angiography are that it can evaluate the heart vessel wall and show the content of fatty plaques in the vessel wall even if there is no critical stenosis.”
“Coronary CT angiography can be performed in 1 minute”
Stating that the patient is injected intravenously at high speed with an automatic injector (a simple intravenous route used for IV drip is used) during the scan, Uzm. Dr. Yaşan said, “The shooting time usually does not exceed 1 minute. If the patient's heart rate is not high beforehand, it is a practical method that does not require any preparation.”
“Patients in the risk group with no complaints are the most frequently used group”
Stating that patients who have no complaints but have risk factors for coronary artery disease (smokers, patients with diabetes or blood pressure, patients with a family history of early heart attack or sudden death) are the most frequently used patient group for coronary CT angiography, Uzm. Dr. Yaşan said, “Unnecessary invasive angiography can be prevented by excluding cardiovascular disease with the use of coronary CT angiography in patients with low and medium risk and atypical complaints. CT angiography can be safely performed in low-risk patients who have previously undergone coronary bypass surgery or stenting and who have a suspicion of re-occlusion of the vessels or stents. Apart from the coronary arteries that feed the heart, the aorta can also be used to evaluate the vessel.”
“Plenty of water should be consumed after shooting”
Stating that plenty of water should be consumed in order to facilitate the excretion of the contrast material used after the shooting, Uzm. Dr. Yaşan said, “Apart from this, people can continue their normal lives.”
