Experts warn that people with symptoms of conjunctivitis, known as red eye disease, which is characterized by a little redness in the eyes, followed by burrs, swelling of the eyelids and increasing severity of redness, should visit an ophthalmologist.
Conjunctivitis is defined as inflammation of the layer (conjunctiva) covering the white and transparent part of the eye and the inside of the eyelids. The normally transparent conjunctiva turns pink or red when inflammation occurs. Stating that conjunctivitis is transmitted through contact, Medicana Konya Hospital Ophthalmology Specialist Op. Stating that adenoviral conjunctivitis is caused by a virus called adenovirus, Ophthalmologist Op. Dr. Lütfi Seyrek said, “In our patients, it usually appears with some redness in the eyes in the first days, followed by burring, swelling of the eyelids and increasing severity of redness. Especially after the pandemic period, outbreaks of adenoviruses started to increase even more. It is more common in areas such as collective living spaces and kindergartens where our children go. Because the most important factor in this infection is actually external transmission. There is no airborne transmission. It is usually transmitted by contact. When the sick person touches his/her hand to his/her eye, when he/she touches another place, when you touch the same place and make contact with your eye, unfortunately, we are infected. This virus is actually an important virus that can take a long time, sometimes it can take a month to completely pass, sometimes it can leave scars on the eye surface and cause blurred vision. Therefore, anyone at home should consult a physician as soon as possible if they have a rash in their eyes, which has increased in severity within a few days, swelling of the eyelids, or excessive redness. If the physician diagnosed adenovirus in his examination, he immediately starts treatment with appropriate drugs,” he said.
