Prof. Dr. Şevket Özkaya, who stated that the number of applications to the hospital with cough complaints at a young age is very high, made explanations. Stating that cough is no longer a symptom that patients complain about, Şevket Özkaya said, “We started to see cough as a separate disease in itself. People used to apply to the hospital with cough complaints. We were giving treatment for various reasons. Fever and cough have almost become our national complaint. Cough is not a complaint, it is considered a disease in itself,” he said.
“Bacterial pneumonias increased”
Stating that they see a lot of cough complaints especially in young ages, Özkaya said, “The reason is that we see that pneumonia, which has increased in recent months in young ages, is the cause. Seriously, pneumonia is considered a disease of young ages. Previously, we used to say that pneumonia could easily develop in the 60-65s. We used to say to pay attention to the elderly group after flu infections. Now bacterial pneumonia has emerged as community-acquired pneumonia. We are facing too many cases of pneumonia at a late age. While kovid cases used to be negative in the past, we see that the cases are now becoming positive. Covid has started to become positive in the society again. While viral pneumonia due to covid is seen over the age of 60-65, we see that bacterial pneumonia, which we call community-acquired pneumonia, is increasing at younger ages.”
