Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality organized a special event to draw attention to heart health and raise public awareness within the scope of World Heart Day on September 29. This important day, which is celebrated around the world every year, aims to raise awareness about the prevention of heart diseases by emphasizing the effects of heart diseases on global health. The event organized by the Metropolitan Municipality gave important messages about heart health with comprehensive information activities for both adults and children. Within the scope of the event, Gaziantep City Hospital Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cardiology Specialist Veysel Özgür Barış offered healthy living suggestions for the prevention of heart diseases and provided training to the participants on ways to protect heart health. “Preventing heart attack is in our hands”
Explaining what should be done to prevent a heart attack, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış said, “As we all know, we all have a heart. We have one life. We need to take good care of our heart. Currently, heart diseases are the biggest cause of premature deaths all over the world. In the center where we work, an average of 20 patients come due to heart attack. Annually, 7 thousand people come every day. It is in our hands to prevent heart attacks. We need to eat well to prevent heart attacks. We need to stay away from smoking. We need to be active and do sports.”
“Heart attack has decreased to 30s”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barış said, “Previously, heart attacks used to happen at a late age. Now this number has dropped to the 30s. We also see it in much younger age groups due to the inactivity brought about by the developing technology. Covid-19, not the vaccine, causes heart attacks. The vaccine prevents heart attacks,” he said.
