Critical advice for the school year: “Healthy eating, regular sleep and hygiene”
Çankırı Provincial Health Director Dr. Hüseyin Sarıkaya emphasized that healthy nutrition, regular sleep and hygiene are vital to strengthen children's immunity.
Provincial Health Director Dr. Hüseyin Sarıkaya gave important advice on healthy nutrition and strengthening the immune system of children. Dr. Sarıkaya warned against diseases that can spread especially in school environments and stated that children should stay away from processed packaged foods. Noting the importance of consuming dairy products, fruits and vegetables for a healthy diet, Sarıkaya emphasized that regular sleep and hand hygiene should not be ignored.
“Vegetables and fruits strengthen the immune system”
Stating that a balanced and healthy diet is vital to strengthen the immune system, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Sarıkaya said that foods of animal origin should definitely be included in breakfast. Sarıkaya said, “Dairy products, cheese, vegetables, greens and quality protein sources should be included in children's breakfasts. Avoiding refined sugar and processed foods and eating a diet based on vegetables and fruits contributes to strengthening the immune system. In addition, eggs are one of the highest quality protein sources that children should consume every day.”
“Hand washing habit plays a major role in protecting public health”
Referring to the importance of sleep for a healthy life, Dr. Sarıkaya said, “At least 8 hours of sleep a day is important for both physical and mental development of children. Care should be taken to ensure that children get enough sleep and pay attention to hygiene rules during the school period. The habit of hand washing plays a major role in protecting both children's and public health.”
Dr. Sarıkaya wished all students a disease-free and successful academic year and celebrated the Public Health Week.
