On October 29, World Stroke Day, Erzincan Provincial Health Directorate shared important information about stroke risk factors and prevention methods. In the statement, it was pointed out that unhealthy diet, insufficient physical activity, tobacco and alcohol use increase the risk of stroke.
Erzincan Provincial Health Directorate made an important statement on October 29, World Stroke Day. In the statement made, it was stated that risk factors such as unhealthy diet, insufficient physical activity, tobacco and alcohol use are effective in stroke formation.
“One in every 4 people is at risk of stroke”
In the statement, it is predicted that 1 out of every 4 people over the age of 25 worldwide will encounter stroke at some point in their lives, approximately 12 million people are diagnosed with stroke for the first time every year and 7 million people die annually due to stroke.
“Stroke is a preventable disease”
Stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted or reduced as a result of blockage or bleeding in the brain vessels and is a major cause of disability and death worldwide. Scientists emphasized that individuals should reduce the risk of stroke by adopting healthy living habits.
“Lifestyle changes in the fight against chronic diseases”
It was stated that risk factors such as unhealthy diet, insufficient physical activity, tobacco and alcohol use trigger conditions such as high blood pressure, high blood sugar and obesity. Research shows that stroke can be prevented by 90 percent with small lifestyle changes.
“Disease Management Platform (DMP) application”
The Ministry developed the Disease Management Platform (DMP) to enable primary healthcare providers, particularly family physicians, to play a more active role in the early diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases. In this context, family physicians evaluate individuals for hypertension and obesity, and individuals over the age of 40 for diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
