Stating that people prefer fake products for economic reasons and have aesthetic procedures performed on them, and that as a result of these procedures, situations that may result in death may occur, Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist Opr. Dr. Emre Kıymık warned citizens. Stating that the use of counterfeit products has recently created a very serious public health problem, Dr. Emre Kıymık said, “Filling and botox-style procedures are performed with counterfeit products. We cannot determine 100 percent of what is in the ingredients of such products. We do not know what it is. Very troublesome complications develop. After fake botox, there are findings such as temporary blindness, eyebrow drops, difficulty swallowing. This situation negatively affects the life of the person in a very serious way. There may even be cases resulting in death. The dosage of the botulinum toxin product used is very important. We do not know if this toxin is in fake products. Therefore, it is a very serious public health threat. It is necessary to avoid such counterfeit products,” he said.
“Question whether the product is original”
Dr. Emre Kıymık said the following:
“It is important that our people know what the product to be applied in such cases is. These products have square codes. They should be able to read the QR codes if they want. Here they can question whether the product is the original product. The biggest reason for choosing these fake products is economic reasons. Counterfeit products are sold for almost 1 in 4 of the products on the market. Fake products are also observed in products containing hyaluronic acid, which we call fillers. Application of such fake products in beauty centers is very common. This situation can cause tissue death. It can cause very serious life-threatening problems especially on the lips, nose and under the eyes. People should not perform such procedures in beauty salons. These procedures are performed by plastic surgery specialists, dermatology specialists, and physicians who have medical aesthetic physician certificates issued by our Ministry of Health until 2008. When we want to have these types of products made, we should pay close attention to them. We have very serious patients with complications resulting from procedures related to such counterfeit products.”
