Gaziantep Medical Point Hospital Urology Specialist Assoc. Dr. Osman Barut shared important information about early diagnosis and treatment methods of prostate cancer. Dr. Barut said, “Prostate cancer continues to be one of the most common types of cancer in men. However, research and developments in recent years have provided promising advances in the early diagnosis and treatment of the disease.”
Dr. Barut emphasized that prostate cancer is a common health problem in men and early diagnosis is vital. Dr. Barut said, “Prostate cancer is characterized by malignant tumors that form in the prostate gland, which is part of the male reproductive system. Prostate cancer usually develops slowly and may not show obvious symptoms in the early stages. Therefore, regular screening and control tests allow the disease to be diagnosed at an early stage.”
Referring to the importance of methods such as prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test and digital rectal examination for early diagnosis, Dr. Barut said, “The PSA test measures blood levels of PSA, a protein secreted from the prostate gland. High PSA levels can be an indicator of prostate cancer risk. However, the PSA test alone may not be sufficient, so it should be evaluated together with a digital rectal examination.”
Dr. Barut stated that the treatment options for prostate cancer vary depending on the stage of the disease and the general health status of the patient. Dr. Barut said, “Treatment methods include surgical intervention, radiotherapy, hormone therapy and chemotherapy. Since each patient's condition is different, it is important to create a personalized treatment plan. Adopting a healthy lifestyle, exercising regularly and eating a balanced diet are important for overall health. I also recommend men to have regular prostate check-ups starting from the age of 50.”
