Prof. Dr. Türkkan Evrensel, Head of the Department of Medical Oncology at Bursa Uludag University Faculty of Medicine, said, “October is an important period to raise awareness of breast cancer. The Ministry of Health, universities and non-governmental organizations explain risk factors and prevention methods to raise awareness among women. Early diagnosis plays a big role in surviving breast cancer. By paying attention to these warnings, successful treatment is possible with early diagnosis.”
Stating that breast self-examination is one of the simplest and most effective methods to prevent breast cancer, Prof. Dr. Hicran Yıldız said, “This examination, which every woman can do by spending only 10 minutes at home, is highly protective against breast cancer. One in every 8 women is at risk of developing breast cancer. These regular examinations allow early diagnosis and increase the success rate of treatment.”
Explaining the developments in breast cancer treatment methods, Operator Dr. Coşkun Özer said, “In the past, breast tissue had to be completely removed. However, today, thanks to chemotherapy, radiotherapy and advanced imaging techniques, we perform breast conserving surgeries. Our women also gain an aesthetic appearance by removing cancerous tissue without damaging the breast tissue. Breast cancer is a disease that can be treated with a success rate of over 90 percent.”
After the training, Aysel Gürel Turkish Music Choir took the stage and performed distinguished works of Turkish music.
