ENT Specialist Özbay: “After the frequent use of social media, the demand for aesthetic nose surgery has also increased”

Stating that nose surgeries have increased after the frequent use of social media, Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist Op. Dr. Ahmet Sacit Özbay said that there may be deformity in the nose in surgeries performed before the bone development age is completed.

Elazığ Medilines Hospital Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist Op. Dr. Ahmet Sacit Özbay made evaluations about the recently increasing nose surgeries. Stating that nose surgeries are frequently performed, Op. Dr. Ahmet Sacit Özbay said, “Especially after the frequent use of social media, there has been an excessive demand for rhinoplasty surgeries all over the world and in our country. People's aesthetic concerns are increasing day by day. While there used to be demands only for breathing problems, today, besides breathing problems, the demand for the shape of the nose has also intensified. Accordingly, people are trying to have rhinoplasty surgeries at the earliest possible age because they want to live with the nose they dream of as soon as possible. The important thing here is that the person must have completed bone development. This bone age is the end of 17 years for men and the end of 16 years for women. If there is a serious problem in breathing, the nose surgery can be brought forward one year with the approval of the family. Otherwise, it is necessary to wait for the completion of bone development.”

Stating that there are inevitably interventions to the development points in the nose in these surgeries, Op. Dr. Özbay said, “As a result of these interventions, besides the problems of not reaching the desired size of the nose, it may cause bending and unwanted deformities in the nose in the future due to the shift of the growth points. For this reason, it is best to perform surgery after the bone development and nasal skeletal structure are completed.”
