Expert warns: Healthy lunchboxes boost children's achievement

Prof. Dr. Muammer Yıldız made important warnings to parents with the opening of schools. Dr. Yıldız said, “A healthy diet directly affects children's school success.”

Dr. Muammer Yıldız said that a healthy diet directly affects children's school success and that children should consume the right nutrients to increase their concentration and learning capacity. Stating that lunchboxes play a critical role in meeting these needs, Dr. Yıldız said, “Natural, seasonal and home-prepared foods should be preferred instead of ready-made and processed foods. In order for children to meet their daily energy needs, seasonal fruits should not be missing from their lunchboxes. Fruits such as apricots, figs, grapes, apples, tangerines, oranges and bananas are natural sources of sugar and keep children energized throughout the day. In addition, raw nuts such as hazelnuts, walnuts and almonds have positive effects on children's mental development and concentration.”

Dr. Yıldız warned parents that the foods sold in school canteens can threaten children's health and said, “The children you expose to the canteen are definitely at risk of poisoning with additives and preservatives. This not only negatively affects their physical health, but also their mental health and school performance. If we want to offer our children a healthy future, we must take care of their proper nutrition. This is an important step that must be taken to raise healthy individuals not only today but also tomorrow.”
