Expert warns of 'pneumonia' for children and the elderly

“Pneumonia, popularly known as pneumonia, is one of the most common causes of death due to infection in children under the age of 5 and elderly patients. It is a preventable and treatable disease. Annual vaccinations as a precaution. Patients with fever, cough, phlegm and respiratory distress should apply to the nearest health institution without waiting. Especially children under the age of 5 are in the risk group. If these symptoms are present in children, they should consult a pediatrician without waiting. Patients over 65 years of age, those with any lung disease, asthma, COPD, bronchitis, kidney failure, liver and diabetes or those who use immunosuppressive drugs, those who have cancer and receive chemotherapy are among the risk groups and may experience this disease more severely.”

Dr. Şükriye Öner, who also mentioned the things to be considered to avoid being exposed to the disease, said the following:

“When a person with an infection is encountered, they should avoid contact, wear a mask if they are indoors, pay attention to the cold and heat balance, eat well and change their clothes when they are sweaty. Environmental factors should also be taken into consideration. If the person smokes, he/she should definitely quit.”
