Within the scope of 'World First Aid Day', Specialist Dr. Nur Zafer Kırdağ from Mersin City Hospital Emergency Medicine Clinic drew attention to the importance of first aid. Stating that the aim of World First Aid Day is to increase first aid awareness in the society and to disseminate life-saving skills, Kırdağ said, “First aid training is not only a choice, but also an obligation that everyone must learn. In our clinic, we provide the first interventions to our outpatients and the cases that come through the 112 emergency line and we provide the most up-to-date and professional assistance needed to keep them alive. First aid is the first and most critical link in the life-saving chain.”

Emphasizing that one person dies every 5 seconds in the world as a result of an accident, Kırdağ said, “We should not forget that someone may need first aid anytime, anywhere, for any reason. First aid saves lives. Therefore, it is of vital importance for all segments of society to be aware of first aid and to be able to make effective interventions in emergencies.”

Kırdağ concluded his words with the following warning: “Remember, you can save a life with the right intervention. On World First Aid Day, let's all review our first aid skills and learn to take steps to save the lives of our loved ones and those around us.”
