Making a statement within the scope of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Tunceli State Hospital General Surgery Specialist Dr. Gülberk Uslu said that early diagnosis in breast cancer is extremely important. Emphasizing that breast cancer is a major health problem as it affects approximately 2.3 million women annually and constitutes one-fourth of women diagnosed with new cancer, Specialist Dr. Gülberk Uslu said, “We have the chance to diagnose this cancer early with breast screening programs. Early diagnosis increases the patient's life expectancy and quality of life and saves us from more challenging treatments. In this context, early diagnosis in breast cancer is extremely important.”
Stating that there are two more steps in the breast cancer screening program in addition to breast self-examination, Dr. Uslu said, “The second step is breast examination to be performed by a general surgeon once a year and breast ultrasound to be performed by a radiology specialist. The third step is mammography to be taken every two years.”
Reminding that information about breast cancer is provided at KETEMs in healthy life centers, Dr. Uslu said, “In addition to information, you can also have your screenings free of charge at these centers. Remember that early diagnosis saves lives. Early diagnosis of breast cancer increases life expectancy and quality of life.”
