Goodbye to glasses after 37 years with smart lens

Defne Kumbasar, who lives in Izmir, said goodbye to her glasses after 37 years with the smart lens surgery performed by Op. Dr. Mucize Yararcan Eranıl at IUE Medical Point Hospital. Kumbasar said, “Mucize Hoca gave me my first glasses. Now she saved me from my glasses.”

Defne Kumbasar was given glasses by Op. Dr. Mucize Yararcan Eranıl when she was only 7 years old due to her eye disorder. In the intervening years, Kumbasar's eye disorders increased. After 37 years of wearing glasses and contact lenses, Kumbasar underwent smart lens surgery at IUE Medical Point Hospital by Op. Dr. Mucize Yararcan Eranıl, and Kumbasar got rid of his 37-year-old glasses. Explaining the process, IUE Medical Point Hospital Ophthalmology Specialist Op. Dr. Mucize Yararcan Eranıl said, “Defne has been my patient since childhood. Due to her high hyperopia and astigmatism, she had to wear glasses and contact lenses until this age. She asked me to find a solution by saying 'I don't want to wear glasses anymore, I don't want to use contact lenses'. We decided that a lens replacement surgery should be the appropriate one for her eye and we performed the surgery. Thanks to this, she no longer wears glasses or contact lenses.”

'The right lens for the right patient'

Giving information about smart lenses, Eranıl said, “The important thing for patient satisfaction in smart lens surgery is to choose the right lens for the right patient. We generally prefer lenses in patients over the age of 40 who have distant or near vision impairment and need glasses but do not want to use them, in patients who do not want to use glasses after cataract surgery, in patients with high myopia and hyperopia who are not suitable for laser refractive surgery. We perform a very detailed eye examination before this procedure. If there is eye pressure, yellow spot or diabetes-related disorders behind the eye, we do not use such lenses. One day after the surgery, the patient can return to his social life.”

Underlining that she is happy to get rid of glasses and contact lenses, Defne Kumbasar said, “Mucize Hoca gave me my first glasses. Now she saved me from my glasses. When she said we could wear smart lenses, I accepted because I trusted her very much. It was a very comfortable procedure. I am very happy.”
