Menopause is defined as the stage when menstruation stops and ovulation ends. Early menopause, which many women fear, can cause loss of the chance of motherhood. Stating that menopause is the permanent cessation of menstrual bleeding due to the loss of ovarian function, Op. Before menopause occurs, there is a transition period between 4 and 8 years, which is accepted as an average of 5 years and we call perimenopause. During this transition period, menopause symptoms can be observed due to decreased estrogen hormone levels, especially bleeding irregularities.”

For this reason, for definitive diagnosis, women who have menstrual cessation for 4-6 months before the age of 40 are diagnosed by taking the hormone level we call FSH 40ıu / l and above at one month intervals. Early menopause carries high risks to women such as osteoporosis and heart diseases in the long term and of course causes the loss of the chance of motherhood.

Giving information about what can cause early menopause, Yalman said, “If there is a family history of early menopause, the risk is high. One of the common causes of early menopause is hereditary diseases. These are congenital and cannot be prevented. However, some conditions acquired during life can cause early menopause. Mumps infection in women, tuberculosis, autoimmune diseases, a group of diseases in which the body wages a kind of war against its own cells, can also negatively affect the ovaries. Surgical interventions for ovarian cysts or other reasons, radiation and chemotherapy treatments for some cancers can also cause early menopause. Stressful and sedentary lifestyle, being too thin or overweight, smoking, exposure to some pesticides and industrial chemicals, exposure to heavy metals are unfortunately the causes of early menopause.
Stating that early diagnosis is important, Yalman said, “Unfortunately, we cannot change a significant part of the risk factors that cause early menopause. However, early diagnosis is important, so egg freezing can be applied for women who want to have children and serious health problems such as heart diseases and osteoporosis that can be seen in the long term can be postponed with hormone treatments. Long-term breastfeeding and childbirth are protective against menopause.
