New developments in breast cancer were discussed at the meeting organized jointly by Memorial Kayseri Hospital and Kayseri Breast Diseases Association.

In the program, which was held at a hotel for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the opening speech was made by Memorial Kayseri Hospital Chief Physician Specialist Dr. Murat Apaydın, experts exchanged information about the latest developments in the disease. Giving information about the program, Memorial Kayseri Hospital General Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. Alper Akcan; “October; Breast Cancer Awareness month. In line with the activities we have done during this month, we wanted to talk about Locally Advanced and Metastatic Breast Cancer here today. We will have many participants coming from out of town. Locally advanced breast cancers are the main topic of this meeting. Locally advanced breast cancers are breast cancers that we roughly call 'Stage 3'. While it is a patient group of 8 percent in America and 4 percent in Europe, it is unfortunately seen at a much higher rate in our country. This stage 3 disease requires more multimodel treatments. A single treatment modality is not suitable for these patients. In addition to chemotherapy and hormonotherapy, surgical treatment and radiotherapy require to be applied together in this disease. We have designed this meeting where we can talk and discuss all of these at once. I hope we will make serious contributions to the participating physician friends.”

Kayseri Breast Diseases Association President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahadır Öz said; “Today we will talk about new developments in breast cancer. The reason we chose this month in particular is because it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer, as you know, is the most common cancer in women. Since it is the most common cancer, we can prevent it. Especially when we catch breast cancer at an early stage, we see that the patient can survive and even completely get rid of this disease. For this reason, our women should regularly examine themselves, come for clinical examinations after the age of 25 and have mammograms after the age of 40. In this meeting, we will talk about new developments related to breast cancer and exchange ideas.”
