New era in health begins: Family medicine is being prioritized

Tekirdağ Provincial Director of Health Dr. Ali Cengiz Kalkan announced that 2 million 870 thousand people have received health services at Family Health Centers (FHC) in the last 6 months. Kalkan stated that a new era has started in which preventive health services have become a priority.

Emphasizing that Family Health Centers in Tekirdağ undertake an important task in terms of preventive health practices, Kalkan said that ASMs reduce the density in hospitals. Stating that citizens can easily access health services in the closest place to their residence, Kalkan said that the doors of family health centers should be knocked more easily.

“We ask that the first applications be made to family physicians”

Explaining that family physicians are the first point of application in preventive health services and diagnosis and treatment of diseases, Kalkan said, “We ask our citizens to knock more easily on the doors of family health centers where primary health care services are provided in the new period and make their first applications here.”

Stating that 5 million 600 thousand people were provided with primary health care services in 2023, Kalkan stated that approximately 2 million 870 thousand people were served in the first 6 months of 2024. Drawing attention to the importance of primary healthcare services, Kalkan said, “Prioritizing primary healthcare services for our citizens is important for their own health and for the time allocated to our patients in secondary and tertiary healthcare services.”

Citizens are directed to ASMs

Stating that preventive medicine will be prioritized in the new period, Kalkan said that in this way, health institutions providing secondary and tertiary health services will be able to work more easily and the time allocated to the patient will be increased. Kalkan said, “We will observe together that a period in which services will accelerate even more has opened. I would like to state that our citizens will be able to benefit from primary health care services and family physicians in many ways, that they can easily make all kinds of consultations about the disease, that they will find more time here, and that they will be able to establish a longer dialog with their physicians.”
