Algology Clinic Supervisor Prof. Dr. Cevdet Düger gave information about non-surgical lumbar and cervical hernia treatment with radiofrequency method.
Sivas Medicana Hospital Algology Clinic Supervisor Prof. Dr. Cevdet Düger said that radiofrequency treatment is one of the most commonly used methods in the non-surgical treatment of herniated disc. This treatment method offers patients great comfort as well as rapid recovery. Stating that the people who apply to the physician about pain are mostly back, neck, head, back, back, joint knee arthritis-related pain and recent cancer patients, Düger said, “The radiofrequency method we use for patients who come to relieve these severe pains is one of the most appropriate methods in the treatment of these ailments. This point-shot method is a procedure that takes about 45 minutes and is applied in the operating room. It is a method that we observe the patient for 1 hour and then discharge the patient, a method that increases the comfort of the patient and relaxes the patient after the procedure. The patient comes to us while writhing with very severe pain and then comes out of here relaxed.”
Radiofrequency method is supported by drug therapy
Noting that the treatment he performs has a high success rate for pain, Dr. Düger said, “In lumbar hernias, we treat the hernia itself, we eliminate the factors that cause low back pain or we eliminate the factors that cause neck pain, and in this way we treat painful patients. We can divide our treatment methods into two as drug therapy and interventional treatment. In this process, we use drug treatment more as an adjunctive treatment alongside interventional treatments.”
Can be used in cancer patients
Stating that this treatment has an important role in reducing the pain experienced by cancer patients, Düger said, “First of all, we apply medical treatment, that is, drug treatment, in our cancer patients. As a drug treatment, we apply step therapy, in which we go from low painkillers to stronger painkillers in the following periods, that is, we use morphine-style painkillers. We also combine interventional methods with these. These interventional methods, for example, we use the method we call epidural anesthesia, and we can relieve the pain of our patients for months with epidural anesthesia in cancer patients.”
