Passive smoking poses a significant risk factor in lung cancer

Lung cancer is one of the most common types of cancer and is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide.”

Stating that one of the most important risk factors of lung cancer is smoking, Uzm. Dr. Nail. Özhan said, “Other factors such as passive smoking, air pollution, exposure to harmful chemicals and genetic predisposition also play a role in the development of the disease. It is vital that people do not ignore the symptoms and have regular check-ups. Regular exercise, a healthy diet and a smoke-free environment are important for maintaining lung health. Early diagnosis can make a big difference in the treatment process and improve the quality of life,” he said, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis.

He also talked about lung cancer treatment. Dr. Nail. Özhan made the following recommendations:

In general, surgical intervention, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and targeted treatment methods are used. In early stages, surgical removal of the tumor is one of the most effective methods. In advanced stages, in addition to chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments, targeted smart drugs and immunotherapy treatments, which have been developing rapidly in recent years, are used to control the growth and proliferation of the tumor. Targeted treatment methods include drugs that are developed to target specific characteristics of cancer cells, resulting in much higher success rates with fewer side effects.
