Specialist Dietitian Burcu Akbeyaz; listing what to do to avoid sweating in hot weather; “A protein-rich diet can increase sweating considerably,” she said.
Acıbadem Kayseri Hospital Specialist Dietitian Burcu Akbeyaz warned citizens who sweat excessively in hot weather. Underlining that attention should be paid to the foods eaten to prevent sweating, Akbeyaz said that sweating can be prevented in this way. Listing the foods and drinks that increase sweating, Specialist Dietitian Akbeyaz noted the following:
“With the arrival of August, air temperatures have risen to very high degrees. However, our comfort during the day has been affected a lot and we encounter a lot of sweating. We know that the foods we eat are very important for us to prevent sweating. If we can stay away from some foods during this period, we can prevent sweating or reduce the amount of sweating.”
Drinking too much tea and coffee can make you sweat
Stating that sweating is related to the fluids to be taken throughout the day, Dietitian Akbeyaz said the following about tea and coffee consumption, which are among our daily habits: “coffee and tea are drinks we consume frequently throughout the day. We know that there are many tea and coffee drinkers. While drinking them gives us pleasure, we need to know that they increase the rate of sweating. Foods or drinks containing caffeine increase the heart rate, which in turn increases blood pressure. This is actually a stimulant, so they cause sweating. Alcohol is another beverage to avoid. Alcohol increases blood pressure and the temperature rises. Our body tries to regulate its temperature through sweat.”
Do not consume too much of these foods
Stating that there are some foods that increase sweating, Dietitian Akbeyaz gave the following information about these foods:
“Another thing that causes sweating is spices. We know that the syntheses in pepper in particular increase the temperature in the body and cause sweating as the body reacts to heat. Therefore, it is necessary to stay away from spicy foods. Unfortunately, there is also a habit of eating too much salt in our country. However, excess salt not only causes many health problems but also increases sweating. In addition, cress, which is consumed as greens with meals, leads to the same result when eaten too much.
“Consuming large amounts of meat can cause sweating”
Dietitian Akbeyaz, who pointed out that although meat is a food source rich in protein, its excess causes triggering sweating, warned meat lovers as follows:
“Meat is one of the important factors in sweating. Since meat has a concentrated protein structure, we know that consuming large amounts of meat can cause sweating. In addition to meat, diets rich in protein such as eggs and dairy products of animal origin can cause sweating. Especially athletes who try to get more protein because their daily calorie needs are high should be careful in this regard. Meat consumption is one of the factors that increase night sweating”.
“Night sweats may occur in vitamin B12 and D12 deficiency”
Stating that night sweating can occur in vitamin B12 or vitamin D deficiency as well as the food taken, Dietitian Akbeyaz, but drawing attention to the random intake of these vitamins, said the following: “Do not take these vitamins randomly without consulting your doctor. Because excess of these vitamins can also cause health problems.”
Drawing attention to the high salt content of ready-to-eat foods, Dietitian Akbeyaz; “Processed meat, chips, and packaged foods have a very high salt content and are very rich in fat content. Therefore, these foods cause us to sweat. If we complain of sweating in this period when we are experiencing the hottest days of summer, we need to reduce these foods a little more.”
“Eat refreshing foods”
Explaining the fruits and vegetables that should be consumed in hot weather, Burcu Akbeyaz; “Some foods can cause us to cool down and thus reduce the rate of sweating. Therefore, consume cooling foods. We should prefer fruits with high water content such as apples, grapes, watermelon, oranges, strawberries, pineapples, peaches. Vegetables such as celery, eggplant, spinach, lettuce, zucchini are products with high water content. By including these in our diet during the day, we can reduce our sweating rate.”
