Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferit Çelik gave information about the 'Peroral Cholangioscopy' procedure performed at IUE Medical Point Hospital. Çelik emphasized that this procedure was performed for the first time in a private hospital in Izmir.
Peroral Cholangioscopy, an advanced endoscopic procedure that allows direct visualization of the bile ducts and pancreatic duct, is of great importance in terms of making an accurate diagnosis by taking a biopsy. Ayşe Nizamoğlu, who applied to IUE Medical Point Hospital with the complaint of stenosis in the pancreatic duct and biliary tract, was cured with this procedure.
Performing the procedure, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferit Çelik from IUE Medical Point Hospital Gastroenterology Department said, “Our patient came with pancreatic gland infection. He was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis in his previous examinations. Acute pancreatitis had developed on it. In his MRIs, irregularities and stenosis in the bile ducts in 2 regions were reported. First of all, we waited for the infection in the pancreatic gland to subside, then we performed ERCP and Perolal Cholangioscopy for the pancreatic duct and bile ducts because of chronic pancreatitis. With the ERCP procedure, we first entered the pancreatic duct and cleaned the deposits and stones. Then we inserted a stent into the pancreatic duct to allow the secretions to flow easily. In chronic pancreatitis, there are irregularities in the duct, the patient has pain and pancreatitis attacks may occur. To prevent this, we tried to straighten the canal and placed a stent.”
