Neonatal Intensive Care Pediatrics Clinic Responsible Physician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özdemir stated that one of the biggest problems in the world and in Turkey is premature baby births. Stating that the measures taken during pregnancy are very important to prevent premature baby births, Özdemir said, “While newborn babies are usually born at 38-40 weeks, we call our babies born under 37 weeks premature babies. One of the biggest problems in our country and in the world is premature births. While premature births vary between 4 and 6 percent worldwide, this rate is around 10 percent on average in our country. When you look at the 2022 data, 30 thousand babies were born prematurely in our country. It is very important to prevent prematurity of these babies with some precautions during pregnancy. In order to prevent premature babies, the births of premature babies can actually be prevented by regular follow-ups, regulating the quality of life, daily exercises and eating habits. In this way, both our work is a little easier in terms of health and the work of families can be easier. As Kayseri City Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, we serve Kayseri, our region and even all over our country with 55 incubators. In this unit, starting from level 4, there are levels and we continue to provide treatment according to the clinical severity of the patients. The biggest stakeholder among these is the premature baby. Apart from premature babies, we are struggling with various diseases such as babies born difficult or congenitally abnormal babies. In the treatment of these, our facilities are extremely sufficient and we diagnose and treat various rare diseases of the newborn. In this way, we are trying to help our families.”
