“He is healthy because he stays connected to life”

Prof. Dr. İrfan Coşkun from the General Surgery Department of Trakya University Faculty of Medicine Hospital said, “Our mathematics teacher raised many students. When he had minor ailments, we first treated his goiter 15 years ago, and 8 years ago, a wound appeared in his stomach, we removed the whole stomach. He successfully overcame that surgery, so he is a friend who overcame two serious diseases and reflected this extremely positive thinking to himself, his students and us.”

“One of the biggest problems in society”

Prof. Dr. İrfan Coşkun said, “In the last 20-30 years, it has become more and more common among young people. In other words, young people and women have started to be the most common smokers, this is the opinion of experts. One of the biggest problems in the society is a harmful habit that can go to all the organs in the body that are epital, that is, let's say tiled, and affect them in different ways and disrupt their working order. Apart from the substances in the tobacco itself, there are additives, this is also present in the paper and filter.”

He gave advice to young people

Hüseyin Öncel, a 79-year-old retired teacher living in Edirne, addressed young people, stating that smoking is not a friend and that smoking, which is said to be nothing, can lead to a darkening of life, and gave golden advice to young smokers. Hüseyin Öncel experienced cigarettes for the first time at the age of 30, which he did not smoke in his youth. The cigarette, which was his first experience, did not leave the teacher for 30 years.

It started with the words of a friend of his during his teaching years, “A cigarette will do nothing but relieve boredom”.

In the process that continued until goiter and stomach cancer, the discomfort of the retired teacher, who continued to smoke 3-4 packs a day for 30 years, ended in the hospital. Öncel, who completed his treatment at the hospital, stated that those who want to quit smoking should first finish it in the brain.

10 years ago, retired teacher Hüseyin Öncel, who finally quit smoking after the diagnosis, said, “After the cigarettes I started at the age of 30 and smoked 3-4 packs a day without saying hungry or full, my disease ended with the removal of half of my stomach when I first went to the hospital with the diagnosis of goiter disease.”

“My young brothers and sisters should not be involved in smoking”

Retired Öncel, who addressed young people due to the disease he contracted, said, “I want to say this to our young brothers and sisters here, smoking is not a friend, cigarettes that are said to be nothing can lead to blackening life. Let them take a look, I say this sincerely,” he said.

“I am connected to life”

Stating that early diagnosis saves lives, retired teacher Öncel said, “At the age of 70, I came to Trakya University Faculty of Medicine Hospital and told the doctor about my condition. Thank God, my surgeries have ended until today. Now I am in a better condition, I am connected to life.”
