Protective against allergic diseases

Deputy Chief Physician and Department of Pediatrics Dr. Assist. Prof. Şükriye Özde emphasized that the first step towards a healthy growth is to protect, support and popularize breastfeeding with breast milk.

An awareness stand was established at Düzce University Faculty of Medicine Hospital for October 1-7 Breastfeeding Week. At the stand opened by neonatal nurses, informative brochures were distributed to mothers and expectant mothers about breastfeeding techniques, breastfeeding positions, methods to increase milk production and the benefits of breast milk for babies. Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Muhammet Ali Kayıkçı, Deputy Chief Physician and Chief Director Dr. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammet Ali Kayıkçı, Deputy Chief Physician and Chief Director Dr. Fuat Çetin, Assistant Chief Physician Dr. Lect. Prof. Dr. Kenan Kocabay, Head of the Department of Child Health and Diseases, and staff members also visited the stand and supported the event.

Deputy Chief Physician and Head of the Department of Pediatrics Prof. Dr. Lecturer Şükriye Özde said. Prof. Dr. Şükriye Özde emphasized that the first step towards a healthy growth is to protect, support and promote breastfeeding with breast milk. Stating that breast milk is a sacred food, Dr. Lecturer. Prof. Dr. Şükriye Özde emphasized that breastfeeding is important in raising a healthy baby as well as protecting the health of the mother.

Giving information about the benefits of breast milk to the baby, Dr. Lecturer. Prof. Dr. Özde said, “Breast milk is always sterile and the temperature is ideal. It provides the necessary water for hydration, its nutritional values are suitable for the baby's needs. It contains protective factors, supports the healthy growth of the baby with hormones and growth factors. Breastfed babies have fewer respiratory and digestive tract infections, reducing the risk of otitis media. Supports healthy jaw and tooth development. Reduces the risk of chronic diseases such as Type I, 2 diabetes mellitus, celiac disease and obesity. Protects against allergic diseases such as asthma and atopic dermatitis. Helps mental, physical and intellectual development. It ensures that the bond between mother and baby is healthy and babies are peaceful and happy. Benefits for the mother; it is always cheap, ready and effortless. It strengthens the emotional bond between mother and baby and is effective in preventing a new pregnancy. Reduces the risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer. It protects from osteoporosis and anemia.”

Underlining that breast milk meets all the needs of the baby for the first 6 months, Dr. Lecturer. Prof. Dr. Özde said, “We are aware of the importance of breast milk for healthy generations. Düzce University Faculty of Medicine Hospital is a mother and baby friendly hospital. Mothers are trained by our midwives and nurses who have been trained in this field before and after birth. By offering confidence and support to mothers, we, as our hospital, support and encourage all mothers.”
