Regular check-ups are important in the detection of osteoporosis

Eskişehir Fizyomer Terapia Estetica Denta Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Medical Center Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Specialist Dr. Nurhan Barutçu gave important information about osteoporosis, its detection and treatment.

Dr. Nurhan Barutçu mentioned that a decrease in bone density with a decrease in estrogen hormone after menopause, cortisone use, vitamin D deficiency, some rheumatic diseases and some hormonal diseases can also cause bone resorption. Stating that there is no symptom of osteoporosis, Specialist Dr. Barutçu underlined that regular controls are extremely important in the detection of the disease.

“Calcium-rich diet is recommended to prevent osteoporosis”

On the causes that may cause the disease, Dr. Nurhan Barutçu said, “Osteoporosis is a disease that leads to an increase in bone fragility. Although it is mostly seen in postmenopausal women, it can also be seen in men. With the decrease in estrogen hormone after menopause, there is a decrease in bone density. In addition, cortisone use, vitamin D deficiency, some rheumatic diseases, some hormonal diseases can also cause osteoporosis. People with osteoporosis (osteoporosis) have increased bone fragility and an increased risk of fracture. Since osteoporosis is not symptomatic, it is not a disease that people can recognize, but it can be diagnosed after measurements made on bone measuring devices (DEXA) or from X-rays taken when it progresses further. To prevent osteoporosis, a calcium-rich diet is recommended, i.e. yogurt, cheese, green leafy vegetables and especially vegetables. Raw nuts; raw hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds are also foods we recommend for osteoporosis patients. If women in their 40s and after menopause, and men in their 50s have one or more of the risk factors, it is beneficial to go to a physical therapist and have a bone measurement.”
