Sea, pool and sauna warning from ENT specialist to patients with rhinoplasty in summer
Otorhinolaryngology Specialist Op. Dr. Mensur Hasan Ekinci, who works at Diyarbakır Dicle Memorial Hospital, warned that patients should stay away from procedures such as pool, sea and sauna for a month in rhinoplasty surgeries performed in summer.
While rhinoplasty is increasing day by day, surgeries are performed both in summer and winter. Otorhinolaryngology Specialist Op. Dr. Mensur Hasan Ekinci said that rhinoplasty surgeries can be performed both in winter and summer, all season.
Referring to some points to be considered in rhinoplasty surgeries performed in summer, Dr. Ekinci stated that there is a group of patients who should pay attention to protect themselves from the harmful effects of sunlight, and that they recommend these patients to wear a hat for the first 10 days to avoid exposure to sunlight.
Emphasizing that they also recommend avoiding procedures such as pool, sea and sauna for a month, Ekinci said, “We definitely do not recommend the use of sunglasses or glasses that can weigh for the first two months after the tampon or plaster is removed. We also recommend light-weight sunglasses to be used after two months.”
Stating that they can see scars, skin color changes and redness when heavy weight sunglasses are used, Dr. Ekinci said, “In the studies conducted, there was no big difference in terms of complications when rhinoplasty was performed in summer and winter. However, in rhinoplasty surgeries performed in summer, procedures such as pool, sea water and sauna are the precautions that should be taken especially to protect against the harmful effects of sunlight.”
