With the 'Sportive Skills and Coordination Training' implemented by Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, special children grow up intertwined with sports. Children between the ages of 7-12 are given sportive skills and coordination training for 6 months with an expert instructor.
The projects realized by the Metropolitan Municipality for all citizens in the city, from 7 to 70, continue to bring smiles to faces. Working meticulously for the satisfaction of every individual in the city, the Metropolitan Municipality continues to provide services for special individuals. In this context, special children are given 'Sportive Skills and Coordination Training' with an expert instructor at the Center for Life without Disabilities, which serves under the Disabled Branch Directorate of the Department of Health Affairs. Children who receive sports skills and coordination training both grow up with sports and gain self-confidence and adapt better to social life.
“Children can receive services from our institution for 6 months”
Fatma Nur Yılmaz, the physical education teacher in charge of the Sportive Skills and Coordination Training Hall, said that within the scope of the training, they serve individuals with Autism or Down Syndrome between the ages of 7-12. Stating that the trainings are based on application, Yılmaz said, “Children and families come together and apply. After submitting a request to our institution with a medical board report, a copy of ID card and a passport size photograph, the child is evaluated. The child is placed in the appropriate education program. We provide education one day a week. Children can receive services from our institution for 6 months.”
Stating that the children receiving education change every 6 months, Yılmaz said that there is a lot of demand because the service is free of charge. Emphasizing that both families and children who benefit from the education are happy, Yılmaz said, “We have students who show development. When children with behavioral problems, attention and focusing problems, and insufficient basic sports skills apply here, we can notice that development visibly at the end of 6 months.”
Yılmaz also mentioned the content of the training and noted that those who want to benefit from the service can apply through the Teksin application or to the Unimpeded Life Center.
