ANKA Hospital Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Specialist Dr. Nagihan Demir warned against the disease and listed the measures to be taken.
Covid-19 continues to have an impact with new variants despite more than four years and vaccinations. The virus, which caused the global pandemic, still negatively affects people with its mutations. Gaziantep Private ANKA Hospital Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Specialist Dr. Nagihan Demir gave information about the new variant that carries the symptoms of the coronavirus disease, which is common all over the world, and explained what to do to protect against the disease.
Dr. Demir said, “It has been more than four years since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared, but the virus that caused the global pandemic is still circulating. KP.3 is the latest in a long series. This variant does not follow a specific seasonal pattern and the wave of outbreaks can occur at any time of the year. Experts who study outbreaks at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) note that every year in July there is a spike in Covid cases and hospitalizations. They call this the summer wave. This summer, they explain the increase in the spread of the Covid wave by the fact that people are in environments that require physical proximity, such as festivals and concerts, and the air becomes dry as a result of overuse of air conditioners.”
“The symptoms of the new variant are similar to the previous ones”
Pointing out that the CDC's list of possible symptoms for KP.3 is the same as for the previous variant JN.1, Dr. Demir also noted that the symptoms may differ depending on the person. “After the virus enters the body, symptoms can appear within two weeks. While general symptoms manifest themselves as fever/chills, joint pain, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle pain, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, runny nose, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, it can vary according to the person.”
“Strengthen your immunity to avoid getting the disease”
Gaziantep Private ANKA Hospital Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Specialist Dr. Nagihan Demir stated that following physical distance rules, wearing a mask, paying attention to hygiene, taking nutrition or supplementary food to strengthen the immune system, frequent ventilation of closed areas, and existing vaccines are important to protect against new variants of coronavirus. Dr. Demir said, “In order to overcome the disease quickly, pay attention to proper and balanced nutrition and drink enough water. Consuming foods rich in vitamins and minerals, taking vitamins with a doctor's recommendation will contribute to strengthening your immune system. On the other hand, staying away from anxiety and stress, adequate and regular sleep and rest will help you overcome the disease more quickly.”
