The specially designed dental units brought to Karabük Oral and Dental Health Training and Research Hospital both ensure that children come eagerly to their appointments and facilitate the treatment of dentists.
From the entrance of the Pedodontics Clinic in Karabük Oral and Dental Health Training and Research Hospital, there are pictures of cartoon characters such as “Keloğlan, Smurfs, Rafadan Tayfa, Tom and Jerry” on the walls. In addition, everything in the center, from the apron worn during treatment to the surgical materials used, is special for children.
Finally, dental units specially designed for children, which were acquired with the initiatives of the chief physician, have started to be put into service at the center.
With the introduction of these specially designed dental units, children come to their appointments eagerly, while dentists offer convenience in their treatments.
Speaking to the correspondent of İhlas News Agency (İHA), Dr. Faculty Member Taibe Tokgöz Kaplan said, “Children are the apple of our eyes. Of course, we do every service we can for them. In recent years, there have been many services in our hospital to visually impress them. First of all, during the painting and whitewashing of our clinic, different colors were painted in a way that children would like more. Then stickers were pasted on the walls. In the waiting room, there are stickers of characters from cartoons that children watch with different visuals. We have a playground. While waiting for the children, we had prepared such areas in order to motivate them to be excited and nervous. The stickers in the clinic were already attracting their attention. They were motivated.”
“It makes our work easier in treatment”
Mentioning that children are motivated by the new pedodontic units brought to the clinic, Kaplan said, “Our old units were functional, of course, but they were mostly units that we used for adults and did not have such visuals. These have a different visual everywhere. In other words, they are better motivated because they have decorations that children will like. This is also very useful for us in terms of behavior guidance. Things that they will like make them come here one point ahead. It makes our work easier in treatment and makes them more courageous and willing to come to ongoing appointments.”
“They approach with a little less fear”
Expressing that they are working to ensure that children can overcome their fears of dentists and dental units, Oral and Dental Health Training and Research Hospital Chief Physician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Taylan Çebi said: “In addition to this, in order to make our children a little more comfortable in the dental units they sit in, we have brought the dental units produced as a new generation to our pediatric dentistry outpatient clinic in order to make their dental treatments a little more fun with cute heroes designed for children, more ergonomic, more suitable for their size and to overcome their fears. Our children are more peaceful in these, they approach them with a little less fear. From now on, our children will be treated on these units by our pediatric outpatient clinic specialist physicians and professors.”
