Stuttering was discussed

“World Stuttering Awareness Day Event” organized by Anadolu University Language and Speech Disorders Education, Application and Research Center (DİLKOM) was held at DİLKOM Prof. Dr. Seyhun Topbaş Seminar Hall.

Istanbul Medipol University Department of Speech and Language Therapy Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramazan Sertan Özdemir and Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Lecturer. Assoc. Uğurcan Karamanlı took part in the event as speakers, and faculty members and students attended the event.


Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özdemir: “We do not do therapy for stuttering to go away”

Speaking on the topic of “Therapy in Stuttering: Expectations and Realities”, Istanbul Medipol University Department of Speech and Language Therapy Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramazan Sertan Özdemir said:

“In the field of speech and language, it is necessary to keep up to date without breaking away from practice. The therapy process is completed when we reconcile a child, adolescent or adult with their stuttering and make them able to talk to other people who stutter. Stuttering is not caused by psychological trauma. Some things can be triggers.”


Lecturer. Assist. Karamanlı: “I never let my stuttering be the center of my life”

Talking about his own life as a stuttering individual, Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Lecturer. Assist. Uğurcan Karamanlı said the following in his speech:

“I have been a student at Anadolu University for 16 years, including associate, bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees. I have been stuttering for as long as I can remember. At the age of 13, we started stuttering therapy with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramazan Sertan Özdemir. I have never let my stuttering be at the center of my life. I have been involved in many different activities in many periods of my life. Stuttering is not a taboo or the end of the world.”

“World Stuttering Awareness Day Event” ended after the questions of the participants were answered.
