
Rabia Polat, a dietician at Tunceli State Hospital, gave information about diabetes and pregnancy process. Polat said that sugar level is extremely important in pregnant women with diabetes.
Stating that diabetes during pregnancy can be examined in two parts, dietitian Rabia Polat said, “The first is diagnosed during pregnancy and continues during pregnancy, while the second is the mother's type 1 or type 2 diabetes before pregnancy. In both cases, lifestyle, diet and exercise significantly affect the health of both mother and baby.”
Stressing the importance of keeping blood sugar levels at a certain level, Polat said, “The aim of the nutritional treatment of diabetes during pregnancy is to protect the mother from low blood sugar, to keep blood sugar levels at a certain level, to provide the appropriate energy for the weight gain that the mother should gain according to the body-mass index and to protect the health of the mother and the baby with these methods.”
Dietitian Rabia Polat added that healthy generations are possible with healthy mothers.
